Artist's Statement:

This bronze took almost three years to complete. It was shortly before the stock market crash of 1987 when Billy Bob Barnett, then the owner of the famous "Billy Bob's" in Ft. Worth, TX. talked to me about his idea of a very ambitious project. He wanted an over life-size bronze with lotsa cowboys and lotsa horses to be placed in front of his famous establishment. I went to work on the 1/6 life-size version you see here, which is the first step in doing a large project such as he wanted.

I knew that around the turn of the 20th Century, Ft. Worth became well known for it's enormous stockyard facilities, therefore it's nick name, "Cowtown". Cattle were herded in from hundreds of miles around by cowboys known as "drovers". When they delivered the cattle they were paid for their sometimes months on the cattle trails, so it's understandable why they were about ready for long awaited cold beer and shots of good whiskey.

The title, "Cowtown Bound" came easily. This bronze however, didn't. It's very complex and it was even more difficult to produce because of limited finances caused by the '87 crash. It wasn't released until 1990. The large bronze, of course was never done, but whose to say that it won't happen in the future?
